The Male is in the Czech….and the Stick is up the ass…..CLEARLY.

Well if I didn’t   think our fair city was full of uptight, ignorant to the world people before, I do now.     Q104 FM’s contest, “The Male is in the Czech”, has been criticized continually since it started.   I’ve been hearing things like “Human trafficking”, and “Objectification”.    First of all let’s get a few things straight. Human Trafficking :   “ an act of recruiting, transporting, transferring, harboring or receiving a person through a use of force, coercion or other means, for the purpose of exploiting them” So forgive me if am not as smart as all of those who seem to think that the Q is trafficking.   They are paying for the guy to go to the Czech Republic. He goes on dates, and the pair MUTUALLY decide if they like each other. She isn’t being shipped here in a box, told to love him or else, and tied to the stove with a 10 foot leash to the bedroom.       It has been PROVEN that the Q is in partnership with ...

A Comedy of Errors - Starring Thomas Arnold Jones and the Sherrif’s Department

Image
So, as most of you have probably seen, yesterday , Thomas Arnold Jones escaped a reportedly moving Sherrif’s van while be transported to the courthouse. Well this Gumshoe has a few things to point out about this supposed "Escape". Walk with me shall you? First, in the picture taken by a driver behind the van, it proves a few rather glaring inconsistencies with the story being told. Reports say he kicked out the back window, crawled out it, scrambled onto the bumper, and leapt off. Ok, so I may not be a crack detective, but let’s look at the obvious. First the windows. The rear windows in the picture are both still obviously intact. So let’s do some forward thinking, and assume maybe, just maybe, the door wasn’t closed properly. Oh but wait! Would an escaping criminal go out the door and then take the time, and extreme effort (ever try to operate a door on a moving vehicle?) to close it? Also it begs the lifelong philosophical question: "If a window in a Sherri...

Coloreds Only Please

Shame. This should be the feeling that the Africville community has. It’s unlikely they do, they are probably feeling proud. They have won the battle. They took on an enemy, and were victorious. The sword of racism struck a mortal blow to Carole Nixon. Am I surprised? (Insert expletive here) no. I know I already talked about this, but today’s paper is sending me on another tirade. So the Africville Board gave Carole Nixon a choice. Resign, or be fired without cause. The catalyst? A plain brown envelope delivered to the board and the media, outlying the “misdeeds” of Nixon’s previous jobs. How (insert expletive here) convenient. The board hires a white minister, the community revolts, and suddenly a lot of “proof” shows up that she really isn’t a good person. How goddamn f’ing stupid do you have to be? Doesn’t it seem obvious to anyone but me that this “information” came at a perfect time? The community more or less bullied the board, and the board caved. This type of behavior is tak...

Racism Alive and Well in 2011

The headline reads: Africville trust hiring prompts some anger . Well in my opinion, anger may have been present, but racism is playing a huge part in creating that anger. So what is the issue? The Africville Trust Board of directors hired a white minister named Carole Nixon to oversee the building and running of a new Interpretive Centre. First of all, who cares of her color. This woman has a university certificate in black history, and has experience in Development and fundraising. Lawyer Burnley Jones, a well know human rights activist ( Guess Carole is not human ), feels that it should have gone to someone in the community, I’m guessing regardless of experience and ability, and based on his statements, that white folk need not apply. Even the president of the Association of Black Social Workers weighed in saying that many she talked to didn’t know it was even posted. Nixon was in Toronto when she saw the posting, so maybe they were just looking in the wrong place. And I have to ...

A Road Less Never Travelled

***Disclaimer*** As you all know, I can be controversial. Today is no different. I am tackling a very sensitive issue, that of Racism. If you are easily offended, don’t read on. ***End Disclaimer*** rac•ism   [rey-siz-uhm] –noun 1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others. 2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination. 3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races. Recently the Halifax Regional Municipality created a detour while construction was being done on the Ernst Mill Bridge in the Lake Major Road area of Dartmouth. Engineers deemed that it was not feasible to partially close the bridge, so they closed the entire bridge, and created a detour. The detour required residents from North Preston to travel an additional 7.6 km and 10 ...

Too Thin to Fly

Too Thin to Fly. This is what Southwest airlines more or less said to a Sacramento woman. This is the same airline that recently told View Askew producer Kevin Smith that he has too fat to fly. The woman was told she had to leave because a 14 yr old passenger needed 2 seats. She was on standby, and Southwest says their policy is to ask for “volunteers”. It seems are lady was “voluntold” here. When she refused, she was reportedly berated by the flight crew. Is this airline insane? I can appreciate the fact that they may be trying to not have another incident similar to Smith’s, but the obese kid only bought one ticket. So the answer to avoiding another scandal with the overweight community is to be mean and nasty to the skinny? Am I the only one that thinks this is utterly and completely STUPID! I have a suggestion for Southwest, it seems so simple, I’m not surprised they didn’t think it. Let’s give people the seats they pay for! If they can’t fit, then that is their problem. Sou...

School Time Blues

The first day of school is fast approaching. Kids are wrapping up summer, and adults are eagerly looking forward to some much earned peace and quiet. While I am in semi-agreement with these other parents, I have my own worries about the first day of school. Mostly that my son Julian is starting primary, and he is likely at a grade 2 level as far as his education. Let me go back a bit, so you understand what I’m saying. It was very apparent to us that Julian was smart from the beginning. We really began to see this develop when he was 7 months old and took a great interest in books. 2 years ago, we decided when Julian was 3, to begin his studies early. Like every parent, we heard news stories about how young kids are not up to par and that our education system seemed to be failing them. Personally I never attested that to be the fault of the paid educators, but rather the parents. We decided that we didn’t want to be part of the problem, but part of the solution. Looking back, I wo...
