2 year and 3 year Old Smokers? Are you F’n Serious?

So I recently read  Here About a 3 yr old smoker in China. Chinese toddler Ya Wen . Apparently she started the habit after being injured in a car accident. The parents say that the kids was secretly smoking, and billing cigarettes on a tab at their local store. Ok, let’s back the truck up. Secretly smoking ? Getting smokes on credit at the store? Maybe I’m not up to date on China’s practices, but when is it acceptable to give smokes to kids at a store? Also, how is she secretly smoking? In my experience, most 3 yr olds cannot work a lighter. Does she stick her cancer stick in the toaster for a quick puff? On the stove burner perhaps? And how does she know what to do? It says she disposes of them in the toilet. Why not the garbage like every other kid her age? Apparently this kid also drinks beer. What??? Most kids can barely open the lid on their sippy cup at her age, and she cracking the top on a cold one?

Then there is 2 year old Ardi Rizal  This kid was smoking 40 cigs a day. 40! His parents are trying to cut him back, and have successfully, to 15 smokes a day. Successfully? That is not a success. It is a tragedy. How did he get there in the first place? The parents are noted as saying, “He's totally addicted. If he doesn't get cigarettes, he gets angry and screams and batters his head against the wall”. So what? Are you willing to risk your child’s life for a !@#$% tantrum?!!?

Really though, the fault comes to these parents. How can you not see what these kids are doing? Admittedly, I don’t know of the conditions in which these people reside, but really, is there any excuse for kids smoking and drinking beyond their parents control at the age of 2 and 3? These parents need to do what they signed on to do, BE PARENTS!

My suggestion for Ya Wen and Ardi Rizal: Serve up some Cold Turkey with a generous portion of tough love. The parents need to take responsibility. I don’t believe for a minute that these kids are independently conducting these activities. The parents have to be involved, and part of me thinks it may be for the pure sensationalism of it all. And if it really is a case of the tail wagging the dog, then maybe a slot on Dr. Phil is in order for these poor excuses for parents.

And that folks, is my Two Cents.

Hey Tony, I agree whole heartedly. As a parent, I think the whole thing is BS and the parents should be punished. The first step of their punishment should be to sit with the kids through their withdrawl. I personally think it was the parents who started them on the stuff.
